There are many benefits to understanding morphology at an early age. Morphology has often been taught in middle school but now the importance of morphology has been highly recognized and is being taught as early as first and second grade. Students who understand more morphologically complex words have an easier time thriving in subjects such as reading, comprehension, oral language and writing. Children who are capable of understanding morphology are better able to understand the meaning and spelling of words. Learning morphology helps students break down the morphemes and decode their meaning and increases their vocabulary. Understanding morphology helps prepare students to move onto the next level and increase their reading and writing levels.
